What is THCA flower?

THCA, or tetrahydrocannabinolic acid, is the raw, naturally occurring cannabinoid found in fresh hemp and cannabis flower. In its unheated form, THCA is non-intoxicating and won't get you high on its own. The flower becomes psychoactive only once heat is applied, since smoking, vaping, or baking converts THCA into delta-9 THC. Federally compliant THCA hemp flower tests below 0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight, which is how it's sold as hemp, but some states regulate "total THC" (which factors in THCA), so check your local laws before purchasing.

This conversion happens through a process called decarboxylation, in which heat removes a carboxyl group from the THCA molecule and transforms it into active THC.

Does THCA flower get you very high?
