The Three Types of Bongs Every Smoker Needs in Their Collection

Used as one of the oldest ways to smoke, bongs are a traditional staple in every smoker’s collection. There’s a reason they’re so popular. These water pipes keep heavier particles away from the smoker’s airways, making for a pleasantly smooth hit. Here’s a look at three different types of bongs that every smoker should own.

Glass Bongs

Arguably one of, if not the most, popular bong material is glass. Glass doesn’t affect the flavor of the smoke, making for a clean, pure taste. With glass, you won’t taste anything but your dry material of choice.

These types of bongs come in many shapes. You can use your traditional straight tube or opt for a beaker shape for added stability. They also come with round bases and multi-chambered options, and each has its own pros and cons.

Straight tubes are easy to clean and, well, straightforward to use. However, they can tip over easily because of their small base. Beakers are more stable and work the same way: just add water and your smoking material, and you’re good to go. Round base bongs are somewhere in between in terms of stability.

If you go with a multi-chamber bong, the straight tube is separated into two chambers connected by a third one. Both the upper and lower chambers hold water, meaning the smoke gets filtered twice. These types of bongs provide a much smoother, cooler hit than others. They can be harder to clean, though.

Acrylic Bongs

Different types of bongs have different advantages, and acrylic’s advantage is its durability. If you have a novice smoker or the hit simply goes down wrong, you can drop an acrylic bong during a coughing fit and it won’t break. This also makes them a great option for travel.

Because acrylic is a type of plastic that makes it super versatile, meaning these types of bongs can come in many different shapes and styles. You have practically endless ways to express your personality with your bong, whether that’s via a unicorn, trippy tie-dye, or even a bong that looks like a traveler’s mug.

The potential downside to acrylic is it may affect the taste of your smoke. Eventually, especially if you don’t clean it regularly, these bongs can begin to hold onto various smoke smells and flavors.

Silicone Bongs

Silicone bongs are made from the same high-quality, food-grade materials as cooking supplies. This means nothing sticks to them and they’re easy to clean. These types of bongs also don’t hold onto smells or flavors, so you get consistently clean hits.

The squishy silicone means that, like plastic, they’re very durable and hard to break. They’re good for travel or taking to parties.

Sometimes, depending on the pattern you choose, silicone can look a little like a toy. That’s the main thing that keeps them from being quite as good as glass bongs. Plus, because they’re not transparent, you can’t see the resin buildup unless you get a good look from above.

Otherwise, these types of bongs are a solid way to get your hit. So whether you choose a straightforward bong or one that also lets you smoke your concentrates, silicone is an excellent choice.
