Dab Bangers
Bangers are a type of nail that make a great addition to any dab rig or bong. Typically, dab rigs come standard with a dome and nail set-up, however, bangers provide a much easier way to enjoy your concentrates. Bangers come in a variety of styles, each serving a unique function but they all work about the same. Just heat up your banger using a torch lighter and place in your concentrates using a dab tool and watch as your concentrates are instantly vaporized!
SMOKEA® offers a wide selection of quartz and titanium bangers from a standard 2mm Quartz Banger all the way to the more advanced Quartz Turp Slurper Banger and everything in between. Bangers are available in 10mm, 14mm and 18mm male or female sizes. Need a specific joint angle? Most of are bangers are even available in both 45 degree and 90 degree options so you can find the perfect banger to fit your dab rig or bong.
Banger dabbing has become a favorite method for consuming concentrates due to its potency and efficiency, and you can’t do that without a dab rig banger! Whether you're new to dabbing or looking to refine your technique, understanding how dab bangers work and how to use them properly can help you get the most out of your concentrates.
What is a dab banger?
A banger is one of the best dab accessories you could get - it's the part of a dab rig where concentrates are vaporized. It’s a specialized type of dab nail, designed to hold and heat concentrates before inhalation to enhance your dabbing experience. Unlike traditional nails, which are often smaller and made of titanium or ceramic, these dab tools typically have a bucket-shaped design, like the Terp Slurper Banger, providing more surface area for efficient vaporization.
To use your banger, you attach it to the rig, heat it up, and place your wax or other concentrate on the heated surface. When the concentrate makes contact, it turns into vapor, which is then inhaled through the rig. Most dab rigs come with a dome and dab nail setup; to use a banger, you simply take out the dab nail and replace it with the banger. Many dab enthusiasts like to combine a banger and a carb cap to trap heat—especially when low-temperature dabbing.
What is the best banger for dabs?
The best banger is one that fits your rig, retains heat well, and is made from high-quality materials. There are several factors to consider when choosing the right banger for your setup.
The first is compatibility. A banger must fit the joint size and angle of your rig; if it doesn’t, then it doesn’t matter how well-made it is, it won’t work for you. Joints come in different sizes, usually 10mm, 14mm, or 18mm, and can be either a male or female banger. You need to make sure that your banger matches the joint type of your dab rig; otherwise, it won’t fit securely.
Material is another important consideration. Quartz banger nails are favored for their ability to heat quickly and preserve the flavor of concentrates. They are also resistant to thermal shock, meaning they can endure high temperatures without breaking. Just make sure that your “quartz” banger isn’t actually a glass banger which looks virtually identical but is much more fragile.
Titanium bangers are extremely durable and heat-retentive, making them a great option for those who prefer longer-lasting heat. Ceramic bangers provide excellent heat retention but take longer to warm up and can be more fragile than quartz or titanium.
Thickness and design also affect performance. A thicker banger holds heat longer, which is useful for those who prefer low-temperature dabs that enhance flavor. Some bangers feature specialized designs, such as thermal bangers with double-walled construction to retain heat evenly or flat top bangers that give you better control over dab temperature and cloud density.
Ultimately, the best banger is the one that suits your tastes and works well with your rig. You need to think about what your priorities are. Is it heat retention? Durability? A clean flavor? A high-quality banger can make all the difference.
Here at SMOKEA, we carry a number of great bangers for dabs. If you’re new to rig bangers, the classic 2mm Quartz Banger is a great piece of gear that’s simple to use. Our very own Quartz Turp Slurper Banger is more sophisticated, but still a breeze to install and enjoy—and for a truly versatile solution, the Honeybee Herb Titanium 6-in-1 Banger is a solid metal piece that works with many different dab rigs.
What’s the difference between a dab rig and a banger?
In a nutshell, a banger is part of a rig, and there’s more to the rig than just the banger. A dab rig is the entire setup used for vaporizing concentrates. These rigs look like bongs and are often on the small side, which helps preserve the flavor and potency of the vapor.
The banger is the part of the rig that is heated with a torch and holds the concentrate. Without a banger or another type of nail, a dab rig cannot function. While a dab rig provides the structure and filtration necessary for smooth hits, the banger is responsible for the actual vaporization process.
Can you dab with just a banger?
While having a banger is part of dabbing, you can’t dab with just a banger alone. It just won’t work unless it’s attached to a dab rig! Once you heat the banger, the vapor travels through the water in your rig, which cools it down before you inhale. This way, you don’t burn your throat, lungs, or mouth!
If you want to dab on the go, there are portable alternatives, like nectar collectors and av straws. While they can be convenient, they do not provide the same level of cooling and filtration as a dab rig. If you want a complete dabbing experience with smooth, filtered hits, using a banger with a proper dab rig is the best option.
How long should you torch your banger for a dab?
Figuring out how long to heat your banger really depends on what it’s made out of and what temperature you’d like it to be. For best results, we recommend a temperature between 450°F - 700°F, which is a pretty big range! The amount of time you should torch your banger depends on the material, thickness, and the type of dabbing experience you prefer.
For quartz bangers, heating times typically range from 20 to 60 seconds, depending on thickness. A standard quartz banger usually requires around 30 seconds of direct heat from a torch to reach an optimal temperature. Thicker bangers may require closer to 45 seconds to ensure even heat distribution.
After heating, don’t forget to let the banger cool before applying the concentrate. If you take a dab while the banger is too hot, it can burn the concentrate. The ideal cooling time is usually between 30 and 60 seconds, allowing the banger to reach a lower temperature that preserves terpenes while still producing satisfying vapor.
For titanium bangers, the heating process is slightly different. Titanium takes longer to heat but retains warmth longer than quartz. Heating a titanium banger for 30 to 40 seconds should bring it to an appropriate dabbing temperature. Unlike quartz, titanium does not require as much cooling time before applying the concentrate.
The right heating and cooling times may vary based on personal preference. Some users prefer hotter dabs for bigger clouds, while others enjoy lower temperatures for better flavor. Experimenting with different heating and cooling times can help you find the ideal balance for your dabbing style.
